What are Polychlorinated Biphenyls?

Polychlorinated biphenyls, also known as PCBs, were made and sold in the U.S. by a company called Monsanto. In 1979, however, the Environmental Protection Agency banned PCB production in the United States because PCBs were so toxic to animals and humans.

Unfortunately, because PCBs can take decades to break down, they are still present in the environment, in our food, and in our bodies today. According to several recent studies, PCBs also lead to an increased risk of non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma.
